Walt Disney World Weather Report for August 17 from @WDW_Weather

Walt Disney World was the epicenter it seemed of all the rain in central Florida yesterday afternoon – whew.  In fact if you saw my tweet @WDW_Weather, eight people were injured due to lightning at Discovery Cove (I had previously had false information that it had occurred at a Disney park). All eight people were released, but it serves as a reminder that you should always seek shelter during thunderstorms as lightning is not something to screw around with.  So showers were not very widespread but strong cells popped up right to the West of WDW and slowly moved over the area and stuck around to wreak some havoc.

Today proves to be a similar day after all is said and done.  We have plenty of moisture to work with and just need the right trigger mechanism to get things going again.  It’s funny how things change and while today was supposed to have a lessened chance of thunder – it looks like it will have an increased chance today into tomorrow into Friday.  (Translation – it won’t rain … thanks Mother Nature for being so predictable) …

Anyway we have in the words of the NWS a “sultry air mass” in place so expect it to feel very warm with highs in the mid 90s that will feel like triple digits.  Light winds out of the southwest won’t do much to give you any cooling, but expect showers anytime after 1pm and I’ll do my best to keep you ahead of the storm if you are walking around the parks today – though showers do pop up fast.

There’s only one feature being closely watched in the tropics and most models keep it 1) under hurricane strength and 2) away from the US.
