The Hollywood Reporter is stating the actresses are starting to screen test for the Gareth Edwards directed stand-alone film due out in 2016. The report says that Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany tested in December and that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s Rooney Mara is testing this week. It is also reported that Oscar Nominee Felicity Jones is on the short-list though there may be scheduling issues as she is Inferno this spring and summer.
The subject of the film has yet to be revealed, with many fan rumors being brandied about by the Star Wars faithful. The project is also in need for a screenwriter as Garry Whitta left the project after completing a draft of the screenplay.
The first Star Wars stand-alone film will be released December 16, 2016.
