EPCOTs International Food and
Wine Festival - 2002

The Food and Wine Festival has become a highly anticipated yearly event for many people. As for Lord Niekon and myself, we both looked forward to the many food and drink items offered. Some items offered were like old friends, while others were definite strangers but we came to love them. Other things we still arent sure about for one reason or another.
The actual touring and tasting of all the booths took a few days. We visited many booths on our first day but left others to visit at a later time. This is what Lord Niekon and I experienced during our touring of the Food and Wine Festival as a whole. We begin our tour with the Welcome Center. Food wise, we did not try everything, either due to particular tastes or for some reason it was forgotten, however, this was only for three or four of the items offered.
Here you may start your tour with a glass of champagne. This is definitely what we did our first morning there. We indulged in the Valckenberg Madonna Sekt. This was a smooth and sweet sparkling wine, a very lovely start to the gastronomic adventure that lay before us. All Lord Niekon had to say about the sparkling wine was, Wheres my bottle? These same sparkling wines and champagne offered here were available at the Champagne and Sparking Wine booth located between Italy and American Adventure pavilions. You could also purchase event related merchandise, get recipes from the various pavilions and/or check or make priority seatings.
Since the company was celebrating the 100th birthday for Walt Disney, the Food and Wine Festival decided to honor this man by displaying 100 types of peppers though out World Showcase. This was the main display explaining why they had all these peppers out. We just loved the topiaries. Also, many of the wines offered for tasting at the booths, were also on sale by the bottle if one so desired. But onto the actual food booths, shall we?
Fresh From Florida

We were both looking forward to trying the Seared Gator Medallions but were told that they were having problems with the supplier, thus no gator for us to try. We were disappointed in this but quickly bounced back when we tried some of the other offerings.
Poached Gulf Shrimp with Florida Greens and Citrus
Vinaigrette - $3.50
The shrimp was nicely done and the greens went well, though we didnt really taste
the vinaigrette.
Pan Fried Florida Grouper Cake with Citrus Slaw - $3.00
This was quite tasty and the slaw was a nice accompaniment to it. Highly recommend trying
it.
Citrus Roulade with Mandarin Sauce - $1.50
The roulade was a sponge cake with citrus filling and topped with coconuts. It wasnt
overly sweet, which was nice and the coconut gave it a slightly chewy texture. For a
snack, this was quite good but it seemed to disappear all too soon.
Florida Orange Groves Grapefruit Wine - $2.50
This was very nice when paired with the grouper. Wonderful tang to its taste, gave a zing
to the taste buds.
Florida Orange Groves Strawberry Blush Wine - $2.75
Nice and sweet, bringing out the definite taste of the strawberry.
Other Offerings:
Fresh Florida Orange Slices - $1.00
Frozen Florida Grapefruit Juice - $1.75
Florida Orange Groves Coco Polada Wine - $2.75
Ybor Gold - $4.00

Mexico

Taco al Carbon - $2.50
It was very tasty, especially with a bit of lime juice and the green chile sauce. The only
problem that I had was that it was so moist that the juice from the meat was soaking the
mini corn tortilla, making it rather soggy and slightly messy to eat.
Quesadilla Pollo y Chorizo - $3.00
Very good. Some bites were dominated more by the chicken, while other bites were more
dominated by the chorizo.
La Cetto Petite Syrah - $2.00
Made of blackberries, this wine proved to be aromatic and dry.
Monte Xanic Sauvignon Blanc - $3.00
A fruity Sauvignon, but still not enough to satisfy our taste for sweetness.
Other Offerings:
Watermelon Juice - $1.50
Dos Equis Lagar - $2.25/$4.00
