After getting a refreshing drink of water (Jamal insisted), we learned another new thing. Jamal stepped behind a fence, and reappeared with bright red bandannas for each of us. He showed us how cowboys would first wet them down, then tie them around their neck. And since we were now looked like proper cowboys, we needed to “mosey? like proper cowboys. Jamal had us hook our thumbs in our belts, squat down low, pretend we had weights on our feet, and take great big steps. Moseying along, it was easy to shout out, “Howdy folks!? and tip our hats to people passing by.

On the Big Thunder Trail, Jamal also showed us how to “lasso? a rock outcropping or fence post, and pull ourselves up to it. Seeing the horses in Patch of Heaven reminded him to give us “riding? lessons. First we put one foot over our imaginary steed, hooked our feet in the stirrups, grabbed the reins, and took off like the wind!

But first we had to stop at the bridge. Jamal pointed out that we would be crossing a lot of bridges in Disneyland. He suggested we play a little game. “Every time we cross one,? he said, “let’s do something different.? In Frontierland, we pretended we were trains, and crossed the bridge going “Chugga chugga, chugga chugga, choo choo!? As we passed the Westward Ho wagon (with that unmistakable scent of french fries), Jamal suddenly stopped. “My Tour Guide senses are going wild!? he declared. He had another trick to show us—something very special. He then swore us to secrecy as he revealed the location of the only full figure “hidden Mickey? in Disneyland.

As the sailing ship Columbia pulled into dock, we looked in vain for Woody and Jessie to return their book. Jamal finally announced that since they were not out looking for it, it must not be theirs. But, since we were all a little hungry, perhaps we should stop and get a bite to eat at Rancho del Zocalo. Walking through the rock outcroppings in front of the restaurant, Jamal taught us that cowboys call each other by yodeling. So…we yodeled. Then, we went in to eat.
