But where would we find the little princess? Fortunately, there was a page of music facing the portrait. And written across it was a clue that led to… Snow White’s Wishing Well. Jamal asked if we knew where the well was located. Of course we did, but before heading off, Jamal pointed out that we really couldn’t just walk up Main Street USA, since it was such a fine spot for parading. With that, he gave each of us a tambourine, and asked, “What’s your favorite Disney song for marching?? Dave chose “Be Our Guest,? and I chose “Meet Me Down on Main Street.? (Incidentally, this was a new song for Jamal, but one he was eager to learn.)

We played our tambourines and marched up Main Street, singing lustily. Since it is a long street (and none of us knew all the lyrics) we also sang “I’m Walkin’ Right Down the Middle of Main Street USA? (another choice of mine), and “The Mickey Mouse March? (which Jamal suggested). As we got to the center of Disneyland, Jamal called our attention to a small bronze statue of Pluto near the center. As we gathered to look at it, Jamal predicted, “I have a feeling we might run into some interesting friends here at Disneyland.? Somehow I was sure this would be true, especially after Jamal assured us he had special “Tour Guide senses.?

In order to see if we would be able to recognize Disney friends, Jamal played a little game with us. He described a character, and we were to run to their statue. (I was quite good at this game, but for some reason Dave confused the description of Minnie for Donald and Dumbo for Goofy!)

Following this, Jamal asked if we knew the proper way to meet royalty. First, he explained, we had to learn the “Princess Wave.? (Or, in our case, the “Prince? wave.) Jamal showed us how to extend our arm, and silently repeat, “Elbows, elbows, wrist, wrist, touch your pearls, and blow a kiss.? There was also a short version that went, “Washing windows, washing windows—oops, missed a spot.? (That’s when the princess—or prince—leans forward and waves with just the fingertips.)

Of course, Jamal told us, we had to learn to bow properly when meeting the princess. A good gentleman tucks his hand at his waist, and bends down low to check his shoes. (I was able to bend a little lower than Dave!) Having absorbed these valuable lessons, we headed over to the Wishing Well, waving and bowing to various startled guests.
