Dave and Doug "Discover the Magic" at Disneyland Park

As luck would have it (or maybe it was all planned) Snow White was right there at her Wishing Well, greeting guests. Jamal caught her attention, and she graciously consented to help us out (especially after we demonstrated our flawless "Prince waves and gentlemanly bows). Jamal showed Snow White the book, and pointed out her picture in the front. Snow White wrinkled her pretty brow and said, "It does have my picture... and it does have my song... but this isn't my book.

To make up for our disappointment, Snow White offered to show us the proper way to make a wish at her Wishing Well. As luck would have it, Jamal just happened to have enough pennies to go around. Snow White held out her penny, with her thumb resting under the edge. She told us we should make a wish, flip the coin, and blow a kiss. (I enthusiatically flipped my coin all the way across the well and onto the ground on the other side, but Snow assured me that as long as the coin made it into the well eventually, a wish is still good.)

Since the book was clearly not Snow White's, we departed with a bow and a wave. In the passageway leading from the Wishing Well to the courtyard of Sleeping Beauty's Castle, Jamal suggested we stop and take a closer look at the book. Perhaps, he said, we should turn the page.

Sure enough, the next page held a helpful clue. A lovely picture of that practically perfect English nanny Mary Poppins was on one page, and facing it the music for a song with a long word that Jamal had trouble pronouncing. Written over the music was a note directing us to Mary's favorite carrousel horse-the one with the golden bells.

Although Jamal had trouble with "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, he did know the name of the horse with the golden bells. And he also knew a special Tour Guide trick to help locate him. Since both Dave and I promised not to reveal the secret, all I will say is that it involves a mural in the castle that has a matching mural on the carrousel. (Also, Dave didn't know the name of Prince Phillip's horse! Surely everyone knows it was Samson.) Jamal also taught us how to greet Disneyland heroes (with cheers) and villains (with boos).
