Toy Fair 2017: Funko Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel Collectables

It’s very difficult to miss the Funko booth at Toy Fair every year. The giant vinyl figures beckon you forward to a candy colored world of everything pop culture, but mostly Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel. Of all of the licensed products that Funko touches, which includes virtually everything, it seems that at least a third, if not half, of their portfolio touches the Walt Disney Company. And during Toy Fair 2017, they even announced a Disney subscription service, adding to Marvel and Star Wars subscriptions that already exist. But within the Funko collectors market, it becomes pretty difficult to dissect the content. And so, I have decided instead to separate this article based on the type of products Funko makes, rather than by brand. This will help collectors of certain types of products find everything they’re interested in.

Mystery Bag Figures

When you think of Funko, you don’t necessarily think about the recently popular blind bag figures. That’s why I was so surprised by the sheer volume of blind bag and mystery products on the market. The ones that appealed to me the most were the Disney Emoji Blitz figures. I really love the mobile game and these make adorable desk chotchkies. Funko brands other emoji characters as “mymoji,” which is the label that applies to the similar Marvel and Star Wars versions. There appears to be 3 faces for every character, which makes these a lot of fun.

Marvel’s Pint-Sized Heroes mystery bag line is expanding as well, with collections for Spider-ManGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. I recently received my first Pint-Sized Heroes figures through the Marvel Collector’s Corps and they are super cute.

Mystery Box Figures

We move from bags to boxes with collections of some very fun Disney characters. The newest properties in the collection are Moana and the live action version of Beauty and the Beast. On the more evergreen side, there are sets themed to Disney Princess, Disney Villains, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. My favorite aspect of these figure sets is that it includes sidekicks, allowing you to get characters like Gus, Diablo, and Flotsam & Jetsam.

Plushes

I’m a huge plush collector and I had no clue that Funko had entered this market. Mega Pop Plush follows the style of the Pop Vinyl series in two squishy sizes. On display were Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Moving away from the Pop Vinyl look, Funko has plush collections on the horizon based on Disney Princesses, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Kingdom Hearts.

There’s more Funko fun to be found on the next page, including Wobblers, Dorbs, and Pop Vinyls.
