ESPN Basketball Broadcast Delayed Due to North Carolina Water Shortage

Due to a water shortage at the UNC campus, the men’s college basketball game where North Carolina is due to take on Notre Dame has been rescheduled from 6pm on Saturday to 1pm on Sunday. The game, which had been scheduled to air on ESPN, will now air on ESPNEWS. Ohio State vs Michigan, which was scheduled to air on ESPN2 will now move to ESPN to fill the void on Saturday. The rescheduled game could not be accommodated on the main ESPN network due to their airing of Postseason NFL Countdown ahead of the Super Bowl.

The Raleigh News and Observer reported that a “major water main” broke and forced the university to cancel afternoon classes on Friday at 1 p.m. Campus classes and offices remain closed. The Orange County Health Department ordered local residents to NOT use water from the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) until further notice because it may not be safe.

Under this “Do Not Drink” order, only bottled water is recommended for all water needs including flushing toilets, washing hands and cooking. Boiling water is NOT recommended.

The order also applies to local restaurants. County officials made public statements late this afternoon suggesting the emergency likely will extend at least well into this weekend.
