SSSHHH, It’s Disneyland’s Birthday

So it is time to celebrate once again, for it is Disneyland's birthday.  But don't expect too much of a party this year.  This is the info I got from the Disneyland Resort regarding the festivities:

A ceremony will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Main Street, U.S.A. train station at 4:45 p.m. in honor of the 52nd birthday of Disneyland® Park. Join Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, the Mayor of Main Street and the All-American College Band in a celebration of 52 magical years.

I am sure the ceremony will be nice, but I can't help but think Disney is downplaying the anniversary this year because of something else happening that day.  The Anaheim City Council is meeting tomorrow and is scheduled to decide wheter to overturn their decision to rezone part of the Anaheim Resort as residential or let the voters decide.  Obviously SOAR and Disney would like the city council to overturn their decision and avoid the cost and hassle of an election campaign, so Disney is lobying to nip this issue in the bud tomorrow.  The developer, SunCal, is saying that they might delay the vote cause they feel there has been a compromise, however Disney says no compromise has been made.  It makes me wonder if SunCal is worried.

In any case, Disneyland will be in the headlines tomorrow.  It just won't be about an exciting new attraction or elaborate spectacle celebrating 52 magical years.  Disneyland is trying to stay out of the limelight so its image wont get tarnished by a local squabble.
