Playhouse Disney: Let’s Dance – CD Review

Walt Disney Records’ Playhouse Disney: Let’s Dance offers an energetic mix of tunes from the popular preschool programs. The cd which hit stores Tuesday even includes a weblink to tips for having your own dance party and lyric sheets for select songs. Gideon (my 18 mo old) and I had a good time listening to the new album. The always popular in our house, Choo Choo Soul got us up and moving with their songs Beat Box, Veggie Dance and The Birthday Song. It was fun to see his reaction as the familiar theme songs to Playhouse Disney interstials — Can You Teach My Alligator Manners? and Tasty Time with ZeFronk began to play.

The collection of Dance a Lot Robot songs are still a bit above the little guy’s head so don’t keep his interest as much as songs sung by the show characters such as Mickey Mouse and the gang singing about driving along in Rock N Ride N Rally or about friendship in the ballad “I’m a Friend, You’re A Friend” Both songs are from their recent Disney Channel special that has also been released on DVD.

If I could’ve made one change to the album, it’d be to figure out someway to remix theme songs like “Can You Teach My Alligators Manners?” into a longer melody as its only 18 seconds long which makes sense as a TV intro but it would be nice to have a bit longer track to enjoy.

My favorites on the album are the songs that offer simple reminders of how to conquer seemingly unconquerable tasks. Manny and the Tools sing about taking on a large project “One Step at a Time” to avoid getting overwhelmed by the size of the job and the Imagination Movers “Try Again” encourages little ones not to get discouraged if things don’t go right the first time you try something new, or even third time because you’ll find you get a little closer to your goal with each attempt.

Playhouse Disney: Let’s Dance is available as either cd, mp3 or iTunes album. So if you’re looking for a fun way to get moving, pop in the new Playhouse Disney: Let’s Dance and dance around the house with your little ones.
