Walt Disney World Weather Report for June 24th Weekend from @WDW_Weather

The coast looks clear…for now!  (Hey it’s 9 in the morning what do you want from me.)  There’s a really good chance we will see some action fire up today or tomorrow in the afternoon.

I apologize, but for a weekend summer weather forecast – this one isn’t going to be too sexy.  The atmosphere has finally moistened up so there’s plenty to work with for a chance.  What has been different and if you are north of the city you would have noticed this yesterday – steering currents are pretty blah … translation – storms that do blow up over any one area aren’t going anywhere anytime soon – leading to scattered areas with rather heavy rain for a prolonged period of time – versus them moving out of the way.  That is going to be the trend today into tomorrow.  The pattern looks for overnight showers over coastal regions and then afternoon showers where the two coastal sea breezes collide – when and where that happens – rain may linger for a little while until these storms rain themselves out.  The pattern changes a bit as we go into Sunday which is why I’d call for a slightly lessened chance of afternoon showers for the day (translation – might be the better afternoon to head to the parks if you are going to pick a day).

High temperatures will hang around the mid 90s – give or take a few degrees depending on cloud cover but with the moisture and humidity it’s a safe bet we will be dealing with heat indexes in the triple digits through the Wine and Dine Half Marathon (oh please don’t let it be that hot).

Have a great weekend and should anything pop up like it did last evening – I’ll always be updating Twitter (@WDW_Weather) as long as I have radar access … I’ll especially be keeping everyone in the loop for the 4th of July festivities with up to the minute weather reports should they be needed.  If you have any specific questions – please feel free to email me anytime.

The National Hurricane Center is not currently monitoring any disturbances in the Atlantic, but a few computer models are showing some development of a tropical wave – I’ll keep my eyes on it but it doesn’t look like there’s much of a chance that it will impact our weather.

As a random aside – if you’ve never been to The Weather Underground – it is an incredible site.  And Jeff Masters the guy in charge over there just writes some truly interesting things about the weather – and last year was a year to remember so if you are really bored at work and have any curiosity of how strange 2010 was – check out this article – I loved it.
