Disneyland Fashions Part of The Story of Disneyland Collection Exhibit and Auction

Van Eaton Galleries, one of the world’s premier animation artwork and collectibles galleries located in Sherman Oaks, California has announced a collection of vintage Disneyland costumes as part of The Story of Disneyland Collection exhibit and auction to take place February 28th and March 1st, 2015.  The Story of Disneyland Collection is the most comprehensive and complete collection to ever come to market and provides an unprecedented narrative into the story of Walt Disney’s beloved Disneyland theme park. With memorabilia dating from the very beginning of Walt’s planning to his expansions in Florida, the collection offers an extraordinary assortment of performer and cast member original costumes including several items from Betty Taylor, the original “Slue Foot Sue”, in addition to numerous other Disneyland items.  Collectors will also have the opportunity to bid on original fabric designed by the Imagineers at Disneyland and sold to visitors in the park in the 1950s.

A visionary and master showman, Walt Disney was inspired to build his theme park after spending time with his daughters at a local Los Angeles park and carousel. Every detail of every costume was part of the show and the storyline and Walt Disney spared nothing in creating some of the most magical costumes in theme park history. From the moment you enter the turn-of the century Main Street, a portal between the real world and the adventures yet to come, a guest could see the bright colors, fanciful designs and entertaining styles of every fashion woven into the Disneyland experience.

Costume highlights from The Story of Disneyland collection include a Betty Taylor (Disneyland 1956) Original “Slue Foot Sue” Costume Dress (Estimate: $8,000-$9,000).  This is one of Betty Taylor’s earliest “Slue Foot Sue” costumes, complete with the black Egret feather headpiece, her original stage wig, and lace up boots.  This dress was also worn on-camera for the 1962 Golden Horseshoe Revue featurette, starring Taylor and Wally Boag along with Anette and Ed Wynn. It comes with the original storage box and head from Taylor’s dressing room.

Additional costumes from Betty Taylor include the original Disneyland 1956 “Slue Foot Sue” feather headdress (Estimate: $600-$800), an original Betty Taylor dramatic stage costume (Estimate: $7,500-$8,500), signed personal Golden Horseshoe Revue Song Folio (Estimate: $500-$600) which includes sheet music and notes, a strikingly elaborate stage costume for Betty Taylor as “Slue Foot Sue” which includes a matching choker and shoes from her dressing room (Estimate: $6,000-$7,000), a complete cowgirl stage costume including hat, boots and belt (Estimate: $4,000-$5,000) and a Betty Taylor original “Slue Foot Sue” bustier (Estimate: $300-$500). Betty performed from 1956 to 1986 and was one of the park’s most popular performers.

Other costumes to be offered which display a true retrospective into the fashions of Disneyland also include an original Main Street Cast Member Vest (Estimate: $100-$200), a Matterhorn Bobsleds Cast Member jacket worn by the cast members at the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction (Estimate: $350-$450) and a Matterhorn Expedition Cast Member Windbreaker (Estimate: $250-$350). In 1978 the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction went through a major renovation with changes to the interior of the Matterhorn, the addition of the animatronic Abominable Snowman, ride car changes and more. The reopening was celebrated with these cast member windbreakers.  Fans and collectors will also have the opportunity to bid on original costumes that include the It’s A Small World Cast Member Uniform (Estimate: $1,500-$2,000),  an Original Tahitian Terrace Early Hostess Costume with Original Name Tag (Estimate: $900-$1,200) and outstanding costumes from the popular Haunted Mansion which include a Haunted Mansion Cast Member Butler Costume (Estimate: $2,000-$3,000), a Haunted Mansion Cast Member Maid Costume (Estimate: $1,500-$2000) and a Haunted Mansion Costume Cloak (Estimate: $700-$800).
