China Gives Disney Trademark Protection

With Shanghai Disneyland opening in spring 2016, China’s SAIC (State Administration for Industry and Commerce) decided to take special action protecting Disney’s trademarks fin through October 2016.

China will be conducting special actions to crack down on infringement of Disney’s registered trademarks in hopes to show that China has an interest in protecting intellectual property rights.

Disney, among other brand holders, have been concerned about protecting their brand in China. More than 40 percent of goods sold online in China last year were counterfeits.

Disney hopes to keep growing their business in China, despite the recent economic slowdown. They just opened up the largest Disney Store in the world in Shanghai and Avengers: Age of Ultron performed well in China’s growing movie market.

Shanghai Disney Resort will open in the Spring of 2016.
