TEA Releases Latest Theme Park Attendance Report

The Themed Entertainment Association has just released their 10th annual Park Index Report looking at the theme park industry in 2015. In it, they cite that the top 10 theme parks in the world saw an average growth of 7.2%. Additionally, the top 25 theme parks worldwide saw a combined attendance of 235.6 billion. As it traditionally does, the report all highlighted the 2015 attendance figures for the top parks.

Overall, Magic Kingdom was the most popular theme park in the world once again in 2015, with attendance growing 6%. On the other coast, Disneyland attendance grew 9% to become the second busiest park. In 2014 that spot was occupied by Tokyo Disneyland which fell to #3 on a 4% attendance increase. Elsewhere in Japan, Universal Studios in Osaka boomed with a 17.8% attendance increase in 2015 to surpass Tokyo DisneySea and reach the #4 slot. Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 12.48.36 PM

Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios took the #6, #7, and #8 spots respectively which all seeing modest increases. Disneyland Paris came in at #9 while Disney California Adventure fell out of the top 10 as the result of a 16% attendance surge at Universal Studios in Orlando. That jump can likely be accredited to the park’s impressive and successful Diagon Alley expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Lastly, Hong Kong Disneyland attendance fell 9.3% and the park came in at #19.

In a separate section of the report, attendance figured for water parks were also ranked. Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach were still the top domestic water parks (with Typhoon having a slight edge) although the #1 slot worldwide went to Chimelong Water Park in Guangzhou, China. Both Disney parks rose 5% while Chimelong grew 4.1%.
