REVIEW: Star Wars Secrets of the Empire Opens at Disney Springs

The Secrets of the Empire VR experience from ILMxLAB and The VOID opened at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs today. This immersive experience takes groups of four into the galaxy of Star Wars. Under the orders of the budding rebellion, you and your friends will travel to the molten planet of Mustafar. Your mission is to recover Imperial intelligence vital to the rebellion’s survival. Alongside the pragmatic droid K-2S0, your team must navigate through an enemy facility walking into danger at every turn. Disguised as Stormtroopers, grab your blaster, solve puzzles, and fight giant lava monsters in an effort to complete your mission.

This story, which takes place in the era of Rogue One features Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, and Sam Witwer as Athex.

This new addition is one of the most immersive environments I have ever experienced.  To keep this as spoiler free as possible I won’t go into more storyline details than what was already mentioned, but it takes place firmly on the Star Wars Universe.

The real star of the show is the VR experience, with perfect visuals and sound you can easily get lost in the world you spend about 30 minutes in. From basic blasting with a blaster you pick up to a bit of a Simon Says puzzle, YOU are there. With multiple rooms you move through, to two different shuttles complete with rattling floors  the experience does everything it can to make you feel as you are immersed in this world. There is the feeling of heat and wind, along with smells and a best that gives you feedback when you are shot by a stormtrooper (yes they have better aim in the vr world) it is almost shocking.

The attraction is now open at Disney Springs and the Westfield in London. It will open at the Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney on January 5. Tickets are on sale at www.thevoid.com. The cost for the Disney-based venues is $29.95. Guests ages 10 and over can experience the attraction. The attraction can accommodate wheelchairs, guests using scooters may be asked to transfer to a wheelchair.
