Work on Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood continues as the new video game-based land takes ship on the park’s lower lot.

What’s Happening:

  • We were at Universal Studios Hollywood and caught some glimpses of the progress of Super Nintendo World, currently under construction at the park.
  • This incarnation of the Nintendo-based immersive themed land is the second to be built, with the first opening earlier this year at Universal Studios Japan.
  • The partnership between Nintendo and Universal was first announced back in 2015, with the announcements of a new land based on Nintendo properties announced the next year. Construction began in 2017 for the Japan location, but the opening of the land was delayed due to the Global Pandemic. The Nintendo based area was also revealed to be coming to Universal Studios Hollywood, as well as the upcoming new theme park at the Universal Orlando resort, Universal’s Epic Universe. Super Nintendo World is set to open next at the California park.
  • In the photos above, you can see the iconic hills of the Super Mario Bros franchise taking shape in Super Nintendo World, as well as work on a massive show building that will likely house the Mario Kart-based attraction, Bowser’s Challenge.

For the Mario Kart ride in particular, the teams at Universal and Nintendo worked closely together to build something that’s never been seen before, by combining our extensive industry knowledge and utilizing cutting-edge technology. I am excited for fans of all ages to experience the world of Mario in all-new ways.”
