The Fabulous Disney Babe - Oct 4, 2002

The Fabulous Disney Babe

A small booklet waited for us at each place setting.   It had a picture of a laughing Jack-o-Lantern and was made to look like an old, red book with two locks on the cover and skulls on the corner.  "Haunted Mansion Holiday", it said, "October 3rd, 2002".

Inside:

Preset Corpse
Bewitching Cheeses and Cyclops Bread
The Witches have flown far and wide, sweeping up the most horrible moldy things (yummy cheese) with their dusty brooms.  Then, our friend Cyclops crushed wheat into flour, kneaded it to death, and baked enough bread to make your eyes pop out!  He felt it was the yeast he could do.

1st Corpse
Melting Man's Butternut Squash Soup
Oh so gooey and ooey!  Couldn't you just melt over a savory soup of roasted butternut squash?  Floating in the yellowish liquid are scar-melized maui onions with roasted saffron and grape seed oil.  Well, that's what Melting Man told us fell in....

2nd Corpse
Mummified Salad
A snug bed of greens sleeping in its own crypt.  The tomato shell has been "mummified" (some say "cured") and embalmed with aged soy and moaning mango vinaigrette.

3rd Corpse
When Two Holiday Entrees Collide
Master of Fright Filet Mignon
Jack wants to put a little meat on your skeleton!  Try this cemetery slab of beef, just dripping with a scary sauce of scab-ernet and portabella smushrooms.  Sorry, Zero!  No bones tonight!
And
Dark Lagoon Halibut with Tomato Concasse
This catch is brought to you by our favorite Undersea Gal.  There's something fishy beneath that tomato swamp.  Perhaps it's the head she found in the lake...?
Sally's Fingerling Smashed Potatoes
And Corpse Kid's Cauldron-Roasted Baby Vegetables
It's hard to get kids to eat their veggies...especially when your tiny tot is the walking dead.  But Corpse Mom knows her little cadaver will come running when Sally drops her fingers in the ol' crock pot.  Mmm!  When do we eat?

Dessert
"What's This?  What's This?"
You can't believe your eyes...you must be dreaming!  The smell of cakes and pies from Christmas Town has inspired Jack and his Halloweentown friends to create things that tantalize your brain.  That empty place inside of you should be filling up very soon.

Mr. Hyde's Very Dead Vegetables (this is the Vegetarian plate - MCS)
Hyde's been in his laboratory again.  he's cooked up an innocent Portobello mushroom, mixed it with potent peppers, excitable eggplant and schizoid squash, then bound it up tight with a psychotic potato crust.  One taste and you'll be drooling for more!

Following this was A Book of Scarols, with great illustrations.

The last page says simply "Notes" at the top of the page.  I'm sure that everyone who got this tonight is just dying to write in it.   Not.

On the back cover, it reads: Skellington Books, Halloweentown Press.

Small pumpkins had been scooped out to hold an assortment of cheeses, and different types of crackers were served.  I didn't get a photo of this, sorry, as it had all ready been messed up by the time we got seated.    Tonight was something of an experiment for myself as well.  Recently I discovered that I have a sensitivity to foods that contain dairy or wheat/gluten.  I emailed last week and explained my situation, and was assured that my needs would be met.   My friends had the regular meal, so I'll show you that.
