"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Writers Reportedly Move to "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars"

A new report is revealing that the pair of scribes behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day had moved over to work on the upcoming Avengers films.

What's Happening:

• According to a new report from TheWrap, the writers behind the hit film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, have moved over to work on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
• The news comes from Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton, who told TheWrap that writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers left the production to go work on the upcoming Avengers films.
• Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers) was later tapped to write and re-during during the production of Brand New Day, but only ended up with an "additional literary material" credit.
• The pair of writers later confirmed that they were, in fact, working on the new movies, but - to nobody's surprise given Marvel's notorious levels of secrecy - that was all they said.
• McKenna and Sommers wrote all the previous Spider-Man films featuring Tom Holland as the titular hero, but have also spent time for Marvel Studios proper, working on Ant-Man and the Wasp.
• Prior to their work on these films, the two were writers on the acclaimed sitcom, Community.
• Back when it was revealed that Joe and Anthony Russo would be helming both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it was also revealed that Stephen McFeely would be the writer. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron, along with being key to the creation of the Loki series, has also contributed to both of the upcoming films.
• Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for December 17, 2027.

The First Chapter:

• The highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday will follow beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.
• The hype for the film has been building for months, and some would even say years.
• Many consider some of Marvel's strongest films to be Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame, and Avengers: Infinity War. So tapping the directors of those - the aforementioned Russo brothers - already has the excitement growing for the upcoming movie.
• An hours-long stream revealed much of the cast of the film, simply by showing a camera panning alongside a series of director's-style chairs, each with a name on the back. The reveal showed that not only was the cast huge, but spanned characters from many different hero groups, some we hadn't even seen in the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) yet.
• Of course, most of this came after the big reveal that Robert Downey, Jr. would return to the MCU - not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom, leading to a number of fan theories and tons of speculation on how this could happen.
