Inside "The Devil Wears Prada 2: Welcome to Runway" Immersive Experience at the Museum of Arts and Design
Recently, the Museum of Art and Design held a preview event for the new exhibit that spans multiple floors called The Devil Wears Prada 2: Welcome to Runway - An Immersive Experience”. The 3-hour event featured a room full of folks dressed to impress Miranda Priestly enjoying a “night of sophistication, style and fashion at its finest”.
Here are my three favorite things from the event (and the exhibit itself):
The Photo Ops
There were plenty of creators who were overjoyed to be sitting in Miranda’s chair in her office, a giant oversized real-life version of the red pump with pitchfork heel, or answering the phone at the reception desk at Runway Magazine. Whether it was movie-worn attire, or clothes inspired by the film (those particular ones were on sale so people could purchase them and bring them home if they wanted to), there were enough interesting things to snap to make a full carousel on IG.
People That Worked on the Film Were in Attendance
After comments from Museum director Tim Rodgers and Disney VP of Marketing Strategy Mike Heeremans, David Frankel took the mic, the director of both Devil Wears Prada Films. It was interesting to hear him speak about how he approached the film, also heaping effusive praise on costume designer Molly Rogers, who served as associate designer on the original and lead on the sequel. It was a treat to have a captive audience with them, asking them questions about the film and their process. It was clear that there was no detail spared in trying to get the looks and tone of the film absolutely perfect, as fashion is such a core part of the franchise.
The Treats
I’m a big fan of mediterranean / Middle Eastern food so I definitely appreciated the Falafel, Hummus and Tzatziki spread, but the dessert was the Piece de Resistance on this night - Cheesecake lollipops coated in edible gold, sparkling Valrhona Chocolate Gonaches with Whipped Cream and Orange Jelly, Carrot Cake (with delectable carrot-shaped icing) and Chocolate Dipped Strawberries anchored the taste-bud odyssey that definitely had a “get one of each” kind of allure. But another kind of “treat” really impressed me - the gift bag included an issue of “Runway Magazine”, that was written as if it were a real magazine. Profiles on characters in the film, plenty of Easter Eggs that franchise fans will fawn over, even an Editor’s Letter from Miranda Priestly. This is the kind of meta awareness I truly appreciate.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 - Welcome to Runway: An Immersive Experience will be free with Museum admission through August 9.
