Why I Liked At World’s End

As those that listen to The Laughingplace Podcast know, I hated Dead Man's Chest.  So when I went to see At World's End I expected for it to be an unpleasurable experience.  I was happily surprised.  Now the worst part of the film are the moments when I am reminded of something that happened in Pirates 2.  Those little flashes that bring back the agony I endured watching that film, brought waves of discomfort coursing through my body.  By putting that aside, I liked the humor, I liked the interplay between Barbosa and Jack Sparrow, and I liked seeing the Rally Monkey.  The movie was too complicated, with Pirates switching sides without making it clear why.  I am sure if I had not blocked out Pirates 2 from my memory I would understand the motivation of the characters actions better, but that insight is not worth the torture of sitting through that film again. However there is something that happened at the theater which made Pirates 3 one of the most memorable movie going experiences of the year…

The National Treasure 2 teaser trailer.  Now that is a franchise I can get behind.  I know it wont have the record breaking weekend that Pirates will have, and I know fans wont be at a midnight showing dressed up as Riley, but I cannot wait for this film.  Catch the trailer for yourself, and let the countdown begin…
