The Many Adventures of Stephen Slesinger Inc.

I wonder what life would be like if the Slesinger v. Disney legal battle of Winnie the Pooh actually ended.  We got one step closser when a Califonia appeals court upheld a 2004 decision to through out the Slessinger's suit because they obtained evidence illegally.  Of course this is not the end.  Slesinger Inc. is going to appeal to the California Supreme Court.  Additionally, there is a federal suit in which the Slesingers are seeking $2 billion in damages in addition to terminating Disney's television and merchandise rights to the silly old bear.  This battle started because Disney licensed Winnie the Pooh for television in 1961.  The Slesingers feel they are entitled to new media such as videos, computer games, and DVDs while Disney feels these new forms of media, that did not exist in 1961 are not included.  Of course, as I often do, I side with Disney.  That being said, these court updates have become part of my regular Disney news diet, and I fear withdrawl if they should ever disappear.  Luckily for me, that won't be happening any time soon.

Quick Takes:

Media Networks: ABC wins day 1!!!  Monday's lineup of Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor made ABC the most watched network on Monday with 15.4 million viewers tuning in.  ABC also won the key demographic of Adults 18-49.  Congrats ABC!!!

Studio Entertainment: The Cheetah Girls' new album, "TCG" dropped today, and word on the street is that it is Cheetahlicious.  The three girls will also record the album in Spanish to be releasing in Spring 2008.  At first I thought I was out of luck because I don't speak Spanish, then I found out that it was OK because their first two singles are, "Remain Seated Please" and "Please Stand Clear of the Doors".

Parks and Resorts: Nominations have begun for the Disney's Dreamers Academy.  Disney is looking for 100 high school students to participate in an enrichment (and media) event held at Walt Disney World Jan 17-29.  Now I don't want to say I told you so, but didn't I mention yesterday that Disney was going to find ways to promote itself after Christmas?  If you want more info visit http://www.steveharvey.com/disneysdreamersacademy.
