ABC: “We Got Trouble, My Friends!”

ABC is having some trouble lately, we can’t deny that. The only light of the past season was the gift that keeps on giving…aka Shonda Rhimes. Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are bringing in the viewers and the ratings and creating twitter buzz…all three parts of a successful TV show in today’s landscape. ABC was hoping that summer would hit, and they could have success…but *cue Price Is Right losing sound* it hasn’t worked out that way.

Rising Star, the show they hoped would finally cure their summer reality show problems, after The Glass House and Whodunnit both failed (Side Note, The Glass House was an amazing and fantastic show, while Whodunnit was personally crap, it reminded me of The Mole, which is the best reality show of all-time, so that made me a little happy), becoming this revolutionary and must-see singing competition…well, it is the complete opposite. The show didn’t bring in the ratings, didn’t bring in the buzz, and has been harshly criticized since the moment it premiered for bad contestants, awkward hosting and no chemistry between the judges. Those aren’t unwarranted though, as the show is pretty crappy.

All while dealing with the mess of a reality show they have locked in for 10 episodes, they also have to deal with the implosion over at The View. Last week, both Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced that this will be their last season on the show, following in the footsteps of Barbara Walters. Now, it is only Whoopi and speculation is rampant over who will fill the at least 3 empty seats. Rumors go from Diane Sawyer, who has taken over the Barbara position at ABC News, to taking the Walters chair, to Rosie making a triumphant return, to a man finally taking a seat at the table (with the two most plausible being Ross Matthews or Bill Rancic).

So, with all that known, here are two questions for you:

  1. What can ABC do to gain back their summer ratings?
  2. Who would you like to see become a host of The View?

Personally, I think if they brought back The Wonderful World of Disney to Sunday Nights during the summer, it would be great. For the second question, Rosie just brought such an energy to the table that has been missed since her leaving.
