Toy Review: Disney Happy Places

Laughing Place has found a happy place in Disney Happy Places from Moose Toys. We first got a glimpse of these adorable play sets last February at Toy Fair and I was curious to learn more about how the Disney brand would be applied to this already established toy line. What started as an offshoot of the popular Shopkins brand has taken on a new form. This series features mini dolls, scale furniture, and home decor allowing kids to customize, decorate, and collect.

For review purposes, we were sent a few pieces from the new Disney Happy Places line. Two play sets themed to Minnie Mouse and Cinderella each come with a doll and room-specific decor, another play set features a house with exclusive furniture, and three mystery surprise boxes offer a taste of whats inside.

These mystery boxes are themed as books and feature three pieces from one of the three themed collections: Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, or Belle. You can’t tell from the outside which collection your box will be from. The pieces are also well insulated in plastic wrap, so shaking to guess what you’ll got is not even an option.

The first box I opened was from Cinderella’s collection, while the other two belong to Belle. Each box comes with a checklist of all of the items you can collect and polka dot fans will be excited to know that there are twice as many items in Minnie’s collection as there are in the others. There are also some limited edition items, which will be harder to get. Each box comes with a connectable tile that can be used to create a floor for your play sets.

The Cinderella Bedroom theme pack comes with a doll named Ella Sparkle and a bedroom set. Nearly all of the furniture is inspired by the shape of Cinderella’s pumpkin coach or the color of her dress. One of my favorite items is a cell phone with Gus’ face on the cover. It also comes with a decorative pair of glass slippers and two tiles. Scroll through the gallery to see some of these details up close.

The Minnie Mouse Cupcake Kitchen theme pack comes with a doll named Dottie Cakes, whose pink hair is reminiscent of Minnie’s ears. What impressed me the most about this set is that the refrigerator and oven both open, allowing kids to put toy food inside. There are some great details as well, like a messy cookie cutter on top of the shelves.

The Happy Townhouse is a two-story playset that comes with an exclusive set of Belle furniture. It does not come with any dolls, but is compatible with all of the Happy Places toy line figures and decor. The base also has connection points for tiles so kids can expand on this house and let their imaginations run wild.

In addition to all of the blind box possibilities, there are three other sets to collect to complete your Disney Happy Place: Belle Dining Theme Pack, Cinderella Vanity Theme Pack, and Minnie Mouse Waffle Kitchen Theme Pack. Walt Disney famously said, “To all who come to this happy place, welcome.” Now kids can collect and curate their own Happy Place thanks to Moose Toys.
