Video: Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” Opens at El Capitan Theatre with Ballet, Costumes, More

It’s two days after Halloween, which means the Christmas season is officially in full swing, and the first big holiday movie of the year has already hit theaters. Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms opened last night at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre, and as always the grand movie house pulled out all of the stops for the big event.

In a one-time-only special opening night performance, the acclaimed Los Angeles Ballet presented a short excerpt from The Nutcracker. This was quite a treat for anyone like myself who had never seen much ballet before, and included two scenes featuring the main characters of Clara, the Nutcracker himself, and three mischievous mice.

Every night during The Nutcracker and the Four Realms‘ run at El Capitan Theatre will be a special one, however, as the theater is hosting a unique photo opportunity onstage, in front of an enormous and mysterious music box. Plus, a musical maestro DJ spins tunes themed to each of the Four Realms. As if that weren’t enough, on display in the El Capitan’s lobby are costumes that were actually worn by actresses Keira Knightley (as the Sugar Plum Fairy) and Mackenzie Foy (as Clara) in the movie!

Finally, just as The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is about to begin, that mystical music box comes to life with whimsical wonder and some very familiar music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
