Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration Starts Today — A Look at Some of the Mouse’s Milestones

If you’re a frequent visitor to our lovely website then you are probably very well versed in the history of The Walt Disney Company and birth of the adorable mouse who would become quite an icon in the entertainment industry. We won’t rehash the trivia you already know, but as today officially kicks off Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration, we thought we’d revisit some of Mickey’s milestone birthdays and what he had accomplished at age 30, 60, and now 90.

November 18th, 1928

Mickey Mouse makes his debut in the animated short film, Steamboat Willie.

Mickey Mouse’s 30th Birthday — 1958

Three years before he turned 30, Mickey already was the” leader of the club that was made for you and me”

Additionally, Disneyland had been open since July of 1955:

And talk about accomplishments — he’d been in over 100 animated shorts. How many of us can say we had accomplished that much by the end of our 20s?

Mickey Mouse’s 60th Birthday — 1988

As they say these days, 60 is the new 40. By his 60th birthday, Disney had opened Magic Kingdom and Epcot parks in Florida (with a third on the way) and one in Tokyo, Japan.

The Mickey Mouse Club was still hanging tough:

And NBC (yes, NBC) aired an hour long special in his honor:

That brings us to today where we’re coming up on another milestone birthday. Although Mickey has changed his appearance a few times, his spirit remains the same. While the Mickey Mouse Club is no more, Mickey does have a Clubhouse on Disney Junior where he still hangs out with his pals, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and Pete.

Mickey has overseen the expansion of the Walt Disney Company including a total of 12 parks (both domestic and international), multiple movie and television outlets, fantastic websites, and even a cruise line. The most amazing thing about this mouse is that he never misses a appearance and has been at every grand opening and more. What we want to know is, how does he have so much energy?

Just a few years ago, Mickey also starred in an Oscar winning short. Amazingly, the team behind the film made Mickey look at least 75 years younger!

As we said before today kicks off his year long birthday celebration starting with “The Happiest Show on Earth” — a runway fashion event. Couture brand, Opening Ceremony will premiere their Mickey-inspired collection at the event and select items from the Mickey collaboration will be immediately available for sale following the runway show at shopDisney.com and OpeningCeremony.com.
