Maximum of Three Animated Films Can Be Nominated for Upcoming Academy Awards Animated Feature Film Category

On November 15 the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced fifteen pictures have been accepted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards meaning a maximum of three pictures will be nominated. The maximum number of pictures nominated in this category is based upon the number of pictures accepted for consideration. If sixteen or more pictures are accepted for consideration, a maximum of five pictures are nominated but when eight to fifteen are presented a maximum of three pictures.

Animated pictures currently accepted for consideration include the Disney Company’s Tangled, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, and Toy Story 3 along with Alpha and Omega, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Despicable Me, The Dreams of Jinsha, How to Train Your Dragon, Idiots and Angels, The Illusionist, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Megamind, My Dog Tulip, Shrek Forever After, and Summer Wars.

“The Dreams of Jinsha,” “The Illusionist,” “Summer Wars” and “Tangled” have not yet had their required Los Angeles qualifying run. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and meet the category’s other qualifying rules before they can advance in the voting process.
