The Disney/ABC Talent Development programs have launched the careers of many writers and directors, many of whom have worked on some of your favorite shows, such as ABC’s CastleMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Once Upon a Time. What makes these individuals perfect for the program and right for the room or the production set? Disney/ABC’s Creative Talent Development team and current program participants and alumni offer an engaging conversation about standing out, fitting in, and putting your best pitch forward. Moderated by Ken Choy (Hyphen magazine).

Jeff Ranjo (Frozen, Surf’s Up, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), Fawn Veerasunthorn (Frozen, Hop, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera), Nicole Mitchell (Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph, Winnie the Pooh) and Normand Lemay (Frozen, Rio) share a behind-the-scenes look at how the art of story was created for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award winning animated film, Frozen. The artists will showcase several sequences including Let it Go and talk about how the craft of story impacts the animated filmmaking process.

 

5:00pm – 6:00pm How To Build Your Own R2! Room 207

Come pick the brains of some local R2 builders to learn what it takes to build your own R2. Panelists Chris Romines, Mike McMaster, Mike Senna, and William Miyamoto will give you a look into the world of building a fully functional Star Wars R2 astromech. The panel is hosted by fellow builder Victor Franco.

Calling all Once Upon a Time fans! Co-creators and executive producers Edward Kitsis (Lost) and Adam Horowitz(Lost) invite you to an exclusive screening of an upcoming all-new episode of Once Upon a Time. Following the exclusive sneak peek, the executive producers will be joined by Josh Dallas (Thor) as well as other surprise guests for a must-see panel where secrets will be revealed. All attendees will receive a limited-edition WonderCon Anaheim giveaway.

 

2:00pm – 3:00pm Behind the Scenes of Star Wars Rebels Room 300AB

Members of the cast and crew of Star Wars Rebels present an exclusive look at the highly anticipated television series. Star Wars Rebels is set between Episodes III and IV, and it is a dark time in the galaxy. In the spirit of the original trilogy, the Empire is once again the preeminent villain of the saga, and Star Wars Rebels puts the might of Imperial forces in the spotlight. Produced by Lucasfilm Animation and featuring many of the key talents from the Emmy Award-winning Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to premiere this fall as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel; it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Disney has a long tradition (dating back to the 1930s) of running life drawing classes for its animators. The idea is that understanding and mastering actual anatomy improves animated drawings and gestures. Disney’s current master teachers-Karl Gnass, Mark MacDonnell, and Bob Kato-will talk about their creative philosophies, their approach to life drawing and gesture, how classical drawing translates to animation, and what animation studios look for in artists. Best of all, they’ll alert you to the classes they run for civilians. Disney visual development artistDan Cooper will weigh in on how these classes have improved his animation skills.
