Disney has hired the writing team of Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, whose credits include, Legally Blonde, The House Bunny and She’s the Man to pen a remake of the 1992 film Sister Act.
The original film also spawned a 1993 sequel and a Broadway musical.
Allsion Shearmur, who produced Disney’s live-action Cinderella, is set to provide the same role for the remake.
It is not known wheter original star Whoopi Goldberg, who currently is a host at ABC’s The View, will have any capacity in the new film.
While the original film was released by Touchstone Pictures, it is unknown if the new film will fall under the Disney banner as the company has moved away from using Touchstone Pictures.
No release date was announced for the film.
