Shanghai plans to shut down 153 polluting companies near the Shanghai Disney Resort to improve air quality near the park. The factories described as “high polluting, high consumption and low efficiency” will close by the end of 2016 to welcome the new park which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016.

Concerns about air quality continue to circle around discussions of the new resort area as air pollution remains a concern in Shanghai.

Shanghai expects to redevelop the site’s of the shuttered factories as part of their agriculture tourism initiative.
