George Lucas Talks About Creative Differences with Disney

Disney Legend George Lucas is simultaneously one of the most revered and most despised figures in all of pop culture. Over the years, fans that have felt a connection to the original Star Wars trilogy have embraced it as their own, rejecting many of the visions the creator, Lucas, had for the prequels. It seems that they also would have disagreed with his plans for the upcoming seventh installment.

In an interview with CBS This Morning (as reported on by Collider), Lucas said, “The issue was ultimately that they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans. People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems – it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘fine… I’ll go my way and I let them go their way.’”

For those who have turned on Lucas, these statements aren’t likely to bring them back to his side. Lucas still served as a consultant on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it’s unclear what impact he had on the final product. Meanwhile, the film opens on December 18 and is reportedly already raked in $50 million in presales.
