On last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host revealed that his newborn son had to have emergency surgery to correct a congenital heart defect. Jimmy and his wife Molly welcomed their second child together, William “Billy” Kimmel. At three days old, Billy successfully had the surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and is now home with his family. In his monologue, Jimmy opened up about his son’s birth and health complications while encouraging donations to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where Billy received his care. He also encouraged viewers to donate to the hospital by visiting chla.org/donate.

Due to the medical situation Jimmy Kimmel will not be partaking in ABC’s annual Upfront presentation. He had appeared at the presentation to advertisers for years where he always made jokes at the expense of his employer. “In light of Jimmy’s announcement on tonight’s show, he will no longer be attending our Upfront this year so that he can remain close to his family,” a rep for ABC said in a statement. He will also be on paternity leave for the rest of the week with guest hosts appearing in his place.

Kimmel took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support as well as their donations to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
