Disney is shutting down their Disney Vacation Account program which allowed them to save money for a Disney vacation. Disney is citing low participation as the reason. At this time, no new accounts or contributions are being accepted. Previously, the program made headlines when accounts were double-charged for some users.
Disney is giving those that participated four different options to close out their account.
Option 1Guests can use the total amount in your account to purchase a Disney Gift Card (depending on the amount in your account, you may need to purchase multiple Disney Gift Cards). Those that select this option by September 27, 2017, will have a 5% bonus added to the value of their Disney Gift Card(s).
Option 2As designed, guests can redeem your Disney Vacation Account toward the Disney vacation of your choice.
Option 3If a guest does nothing, starting after September 27, 2017, Disney will begin to close Disney Vacation Accounts and process refunds. If you have funds in a Disney Vacation Account after September 27, 2017, then some time after that date you will receive a full refund of your balance to your original form of payment or by check to the mailing address we have on file for you. Due to the nature of the program, guests may experience delays in the refund process. Disney will add a bonus of 2% of the guest’s closing balance or $5.00 (whichever is greater) that will be placed on a Disney Gift Card and emailed. The bonus Disney Gift Card will be delivered separately from your refund.
Option 4Guests can request a refund before the refund process described in Option 3 is completed, and the full unused balance will be refunded to the original form of payment or by check to the mailing address we have on file for you. With this option 4, guests will not be eligible to receive the bonus Disney Gift Card.
