Disney Involved in Harvey Weinstein Related Law Suit

Deadline is reporting that an anonymous Canadian actress-model has initiated a lawsuit that includes Disney regarding Harvey Weinstein. She claims that the disgraced Weinstein sexually assaulted her twice in 2000.

“Weinstein is a serial sexual predator who, by the time of the assaults on [Doe], had well-developed methods for targeting young actresses and luring them into situations that he considered optimal for sexually harassing and assaulting them,” the lawsuit says.

Disney owned Miramax at the time of the incident. The business unit was controlled by the Weinstein brothers but was owned by Disney from 1993 until 2010. The Weinsteins departed after many run-ins with Disney management in 2005.

In a statement Disney said, “The Weinsteins operated and managed their business with virtual autonomy, and we were unaware of any complaints, lawsuits, or settlements. There is absolutely no legal basis for this claim against The Walt Disney Company and we will defend against it vigorously.”
