The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 20 films are in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 90th Academy Awards.

9 of the 20 films have a connection to The Walt Disney Company:

Beauty and the Beast

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

 

Kong: Skull Island (visual effects by ILM)

Life (visual effects by ILM)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Spider-Man Homecoming (visual effects by ILM)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (visual effects by ILM)

Thor: Ragnarok (visual effects by ILM)

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (visual effects by ILM)

The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the preliminary shortlist. Later this month, the committee will select the 10 films that will advance to nominations voting.

Nominations for the 90th Oscars will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 6:30 p.m. ET3:30 p.m. PT. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
