Fox Shifts and Add Dates for “Alita: Battle Angel,” Blue Sky’s “Foster” and More

Today, 20th Century Fox announced a few changes to its upcoming movie slate, shifting release dates for a few projects while announcing dates for others. First up, as Deadline reports, Alita: Battle Angel from director Robert Rodriguez will be moving from its July release date to December 21st of this year. Meanwhile, the studio’s The Darkest Minds and The Predator will swap dates, with the former now bowing on August 3rd and the latter arriving September 14th.

Looking further down the schedule, Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile has now been dated for November 8th, 2019. Interestingly, Deadline notes that this release date is the same as Disney’s Nicole… although the site reported last week that the film — now titled Noelle — would be coming to Disney’s streaming platform instead.

In any case, the other film gaining a release date Blue Sky Animation’s Foster, which is now set for March 5th, 2021. That’s notable for a few reasons, the first of which being that, if all goes well, Disney will have acquired the studio by that time. Secondly, many have wondered what Disney’s ownership would mean for Fox’s relationship with Blue Sky considering Disney already has their own animation studio along with Pixar. Lastly, the date given to Foster has also been earmarked for a Fox Marvel film.
