Coco Wins Oscars for Animated Feature and Original Song

At the 90th Oscars, Pixar’s Coco won two awards. The first was for Best Animated Feature. This is the sixth consecutive win in the category for The Walt Disney Company. It was the second win for Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) and the ninth win for Pixar.

In addition Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez won the Original Song award for Coco’s “Remember Me.” It was their second Oscar win after Frozen’s “Let It Go.” They are currently working on Broadway’s production of Frozen which officially opens later this month.

In addition, Fox won several awards including Best Picture. One of the reasons Disney CEO said they want to purchase 21st Century Fox was their ability to make and market prestige film. Their performance tonight helped proved their ability. Here is a list of their winners:

Actress: Frances McDormand, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”

Director: “The Shape of Water,” Guillermo del Toro

Original Score: “The Shape of Water,” Alexandre Desplat

Production Design: “The Shape of Water,” Paul D. Austerberry, Jeffrey A. Melvin, Shane Vieau

Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”

And finally, Disney took the promotional platform that the broadcast provides to debut the teaser trailer for Mary Poppins Returns as well as the first ad for Walt Disney World’s Toy Story Land:
