“Toy Story” Voice Actor R. Lee Ermey Passes Away at 74

Actor R. Lee Ermey passed away yesterday at the age of 74. Although he is best known for his role in Full Metal Jacket, Disney fans will recognize him as the voice of Sarge (Green Army Men) in the Toy Story trilogy. According to his IMDb biography, before becoming an actor, he served the country for 11 years in the Marine Corps rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant and later was given the honorary rank of Gunnery Sergeant. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Ermey’s military background and expertise was sought after by director Francis Ford Coppola and he was a consultant for Apocalypse Now. His career in film and television spanned five decades, beginning in 1978 with his role in The Boys in Company C. His latest credit was reprising his role as Sarage in the Disney Magic Kingdoms mobile game.
