ABC has just given a series order to a spinoff of their hit comedy The Goldbergs. According to Deadline, the new show will be set in the 1990s (The Goldbergs takes place in the 80s) and will follow William Penn Academy teachers played by Tim Meadows, Bryan Callen, and others. Incidentally, ABC has actually been sitting on the spin-off for some time, but declined to take the series past pilot last season. However, a “backdoor pilot” aired as a Goldbergs episode earlier this year and was well received. Additionally, Deadline reports that the idea has been retooled some from its original concept. The new show — previously titled Schooled — is expected to premiere as part of ABC’s 2018-19 season.
