Actress Carole Shelley Passes Away at 79

Broadway veteran actress, Carole Shelley, has passed away at the age or 79.

  • Playbill has reported that the Broadway actress passed away from cancer at her home on August 31st.
  • Most fans know Shelley from her impressive career on stage, television, and in films. Disney fans will recognize her as the voice of the goose, Amelia Gamble, in The Aristocats, Lady Cluck in Robin Hood, and Lachesis—one of the Fates—in Hercules. She also played Fiona in Disney’s live-action film Jungle 2 Jungle. 
  • Shelley is one of only two actresses to play the role of Gwendolyn Pigeon in The Odd Couple in all three adaptations: on stage, television, and film.
  • She starred as Madame Morrrible as part of the Original Broadway Cast of Wicked (2003). Some of her other notable roles include: Mrs. Kendal in The Elephant Man (1979), and Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret (1998 revival).
  • Shelley was married to Albert G. Woods from 1967 until his death in 1971. No other relatives or family members have been named at this time.
