New Set Photo Released from “Avatar” Sequel

Avatar fans will still have to wait a bit before the sequels come to theaters, but production and filming are well underway. Just last week, the official Avatar Twitter shared a sneak peek of one of their sets and announced they’d finished scheduled filming for 2019.

What’s happening:

  • The Avatar sequels are getting closer to completion. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief and know that yes, the long awaited follow up stories to the 2009 global phenomenon are in various stages of production.
  • Last week, the official Avatar Twitter account shared a sneak peek photo and noted that live-action filming for 2019 was complete.
  • Currently there are four sequels planned, for a total of five Avatar movies with release dates scheduled for every other December from 2021-2027.
  • The Avatar 2 sequel is expected to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2021.

  • On Friday morning, to the delight of fans, Avatar tweeted this message:
    • “That's a wrap, Na'vi Nation! It's our last day of live-action filming in 2019, and we're celebrating with a sneak peek. Check out this photo of the aft well deck section of the Sea Dragon, a massive mothership that carries an array of other sea-going craft in the sequels.”
  • Further along in the Twitter responses, Avatar confirms there is still filming to be done and cast and crew will return to New Zealand to work on new sets in 2020.
