"LEGO Disney Princess: Magical Mayhem" Turns the Castle Upside Down for World Princess Week

The new Disney+ special reunites Ariel, Rapunzel, Snow White, Moana, Jasmine, and Mulan for a Cheshire Cat-fueled animal invasion — and a brand-new LEGO castle.

It’s become a tradition for World Princess Week to usher in a new LEGO Disney Princess animated special. This year’s episode, Magical Maghem (now streaming on Disney+), helps usher in the latest SKU for the LEGO Disney Princess dream castle. To quote Pixar’s Hoppers, it turns “This into this.”

Ariel, Rapunzel, Snow White, Moana, Jasmine, and Mulan are enjoying a nice day in the castle when it is suddenly invaded by all manner of animals during a storm. When it’s revealed that all of these furry friends were invited by the mischievous Cheshire Cat, the castle gets turned upside down, literally, needing to be reassembled into something new.

Fans of the previous installments will find even more meta Disney references. Among the critters summoned to the castle are Mr. Busy the beaver from Lady and the Tramp, geese sisters Abigail and Amelia from The Aristocats, and Tick-Tock the crocodile from Peter Pan. There’s also a fun bit where Kaa from The Jungle Book interacts with Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, both of whom were originally voiced by Sterling Holloway (both voiced here by Jim Cummings). The appearance of the Cheshire Cat also feels designed to tie into the 75th anniversary celebration of Alice in Wonderland.

With so much of Disney Consumer Products’ Disney Princess line focusing on animal sidekicks over the last year, this special gives characters like Flounder, Mushu, and Rajah more to do as they interact with other animal characters. There’s a meta charm to these shows since the main goal is to inspire new ways to play with the products currently on the market.

Fast-paced and fun, LEGO Disney Princess: Magical Maghem continues the adventures that started in 2023’s LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest and last year’s LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite. Presumably, next year’s special will delve deeper into the latest version of the castle, which really only appears at the end of the story. But for now, whether you’re playing along or just enjoying it on its own merits, there’s plenty of fun to be had.
