Twelve Disneyland Resort Restaurants Win Southern California Restaurant Writers Awards
Twelve Disneyland Resort Restaurants Win Southern California Restaurant Writers Awards
At the annual Southern California
Restaurant Writers (SCRW) Awards Banquet held at the Disneyland Hotel earlier
this month, Disneyland Resort restaurants Yamabuki, Steakhouse 55 (formerly
known as Granvilles Steakhouse) and Napa Rose were recognized as a few of
Southern Californias best, receiving Golden Sceptre awards the highest honor in
their respective categories. To receive a Golden Sceptre award, restaurants need
to tally more than 95 points on the SCRW score sheets and then be elected by a
special vote of SCRW members. Restaurants are judged on food, service, ambiance
and beverages.
Yamabuki, located at Disneys Paradise Pier Hotel, received a Golden Sceptre
award in the Japanese category. The restaurants welcoming ambience and original
recipes differentiates it from many other Asian fine-dining eateries. Named for
the yellow mountain rose, Yamabuki boasts lively dcor, sushi bar and dining
area, including traditional Japanese-style seating in its Tatami Room. In
addition to providing an outstanding sushi and saki experience, Yamabuki offers
lunch and dinner menus filled with savory dishes that stay true to the very
essence of Japanese cuisine. Chef Katsuhiko Sato and the entire Yamabuki team
have created a dining experience that we are all tremendously proud of, said
Mary Niven, Disneyland Resort vice president of Food and Beverage. Our Yamabuki
team is making culinary dreams come true ? all the while, staying true to the
very essence of Japanese cuisine.
In the American category, Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel, recognized
under its former name, Granvilles, won a Golden Sceptre award despite being up
against tough competition such as Los Angeles celebrity hot-spot, The Ivy. Under
the direction of Chef de Cuisine II Jason Martin, Steakhouse 55 is elegant
without pretense, evoking a feel of vintage Hollywood through its retro dcor of
deep burgundies, satin textures and handsome hardwoods. The restaurant offers an
impressive wine list and a straightforward menu of quintessential American
cuisine, including its remarkable Seven Onion Soup, as well as a popular Bone-in
Rib Eye or Pork Rib Eye with Chef Jasons own Steakhouse 55 Signature Rub. A
complete Prix-Fixe meal is also featured on the menu for a multi-course
experience, which includes Caesar Salad with Olive Tapenade Crouton, Petite New
York Steak, Garlic and Herb Smashed Potatoes, plus a seasonal Tart a la mode.
Perennial favorite Napa Rose at Disneys Grand Californian Hotel, took home not
one, but two awards: a Golden Sceptre in the Contemporary category, and the Gold
Bacchus Wine Award. Napa Rose showcases California wine country cuisine through
the freshest ingredients. With menu options that change seasonally to follow the
holistic dining philosophy of Executive Chef Andrew Sutton, Napa Rose provides
unique dining options all year long. The restaurant also features a
16,000-bottle wine cellar, more than 900 vintages, and 50 wines available by the
glass.
In addition to the three Golden Sceptres and the Gold Bacchus Wine Award,
restaurants at the Disneyland Resort received nine other awards as well, truly
highlighting the vast array of outstanding dining options throughout the parks
and resorts. Blue Bayou (Disneyland park), Hooks Pointe (Disneyland Hotel),
Storytellers Cafe (Disneys Grand Californian Hotel), and The Vineyard Room (Disneys
California Adventure park) all received American Gold awards, while Ariels
Grotto (Disneys California Adventure park),, Caf Orleans (Disneyland park), and
Goofys Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel) were awarded with American Sterling Silver.
PCH Grill (Disneys Paradise Pier Hotel) won a Contemporary Silver, and Wine
Country Trattoria (Disneys California Adventure park) won accolades for Italian
Special Value.
