Honored posthumously were:
Edna Disney- Founder
Lillian Disney- Founder
Roy Disney: “There were two other co-founders. Without them there very
likely wouldn’t have been a Walt Disney Company. They were two pillars of
strength, who made it possible for two brothers to achieve their dreams. The
fledgling studio was kept afloat partly with volunteer efforts of Edna and
Lillian Disney, who helped with office work and with inking and painting of
animation cels. It is with great gratitude and fondness that I accept these two
Legend awards on behalf of the Disney family.?
Floyd Gottfredson- Publishing
Floyd drew the Mickey Mouse daily comic strip from 1930 until his retirement 45
years later. As his son commented while accepting the award, Floyd never took
Mickey lightly and would always find an excuse not to draw him except for the
comic strip, no matter how much his son would beg him.
Buddy Hackett- Film
The award was accepted by son Sandy and daughter Lisa Hackett. Sandy said
“Sitting here today thinking of something to say, I looked up at this building
(Team Disney aka Dwarfs Building), and I’m seeing the Seven Dwarfs and realized
that Disney likes things that are short, fat and round. That’s how Disney and my
Dad hooked up.?
Alfred Taliaferro- Publishing
Widow, Lucy, accepted the award and told how they had met when they both worked
at the Studio. They had met in January and were wed in July, which was a quick
courtship. She shared her memories of Al drawing the Duck nephews, which started
in comics and graduated to film. Roy E Disney would come by to look and Al would
always say “Hi, young Roy? which is how she refers to Roy E. Disney even today.
Neil Beckett- Character Merchandise
Neil spent twenty-five years in building Disney’s presence in New Zealand and
Australia before his retirement.

After the Ceremony the honorees then put their handprints and signatures in blocks of cement which will be then cast in bronze and mounted on the walls of the pillars that surround the Legends Plaza. The crowd included 170 people who watched the proceedings and visited with one another. The Legends and their families then proceeded into the Team Disney Building and up the elevator to the exclusive executive dining room called the Rotunda. Each person attending the luncheon found a chocolate Disney Legends Mickey and a jewelers box containing a small metal pin replica of the Legends Award awaiting them at their tables. Roy E. Disney welcomed everyone while Mickey and Minnie took turns visiting each guest there. Afterwards the guests visited with their friends at other tables before the wonderful, magical day ended.
