Lost at Comic-Con

Lost did it's annual presentation at Comic-con.  It seems every year Comic-con gets bigger and bigger.  Many credit the success of Lost was based off its getting buzz at Comic-con, and in turn that got the entertainment industry interested in Comic-con.  Of course I don't credit Comic-con Lost's success.  I think it became a hit from the excitment it got at ABC Primetime Preview Weekend at Disney's California Adventure.  But for some reason, after Lost and Desperate Housewives became hits, they never did another ABC weekend at DCA.  Go figure.  Speaking of Lost, there will be a video game inspired by the show will be released next year.  The game will not be made by Disney Interactive Studios but by Ubi Soft Montreal.   Hopefully, Rousseau will be the only character that speaks French.  Oh, and for those that havn't heard, next season will feature flashbacks and flashforwards.  I wish I could flash forward to February so I wouldn't have to wait so long for a new episode.

Quickish Takes:

Studio Entertainment:  Disney is releasing "Pixar Short Films Collection" on DVD and Blu-ray on November 6th.  Pixar is known for having shorts in front of their films, and Disney will start doing that as well.  I totally support this.  Not only do I feel like it adds something to the movie going experience, much like First Look on the Movie Watcher Network, it is a great way to train artists and tell shorter stories.  Also, with Disney getting back in to the short biz, it allows  us to see the Fab 5 back on the big screen.  I am looking forward to the new Goofy cartoon, "How to Set Up your Home Theater".  and it was great to see Working for Peanuts in front of Meet the Robinsons.  I do not like Working for Peanuts, but I enjoyed having the short as an imperatif before the feature starts.  But with Disney Animation Studios getting in to shorts, it is great they changed their name.  Walt Disney Feature Animation doesn't lend itself to shorts.

Parks and Resorts:  Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp began today at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.  When I first went to training camp a few years ago I expected to be bored.  I was wrong.  The precision of which the players do their drills is amazing.  The intimate setting is also neat.  If you get a chance to go before August 16th, check it out.

Disney Consumer Products: Team Xbox has an interesting article regarding Turok.  The game, being developed by Disney's Propaganda Games, will be Disney's first M rated game, though the game will be released under the Touchstone banner.  The game is violent.   It will be interesting to see if Disney is able to make a non-Disney branded game succeed.  And as the company moves to more Disney branded content, are games like Turok where Disney wants to invest.  I am surprised the game is under the Touchstone brand instead of ABC.  Disney was giving the vybe that they were looking at retiring the Touchstone brand.
