Baked Alaska

So the Disney Wonder made it to Vancouver to start it’s first voyage to “The Last Frontier” of Alaska.  I am taking one of Disney’s Alaskan cruises later this year.  I look forward to having the sun barely set, seeing the Northern Lights, and cuddling with a polar bear.  If all of these don’t happen, I will be very disappointed.

I have not been on the Wonder since 2003 since I tend to enjoy the longer cruises that had been the Disney Magic’s specialty, but I look forward to my cruise homecoming.  Having recently been on the Disney Dream, I am curious to see how I feel about the “Classic Ships” compared to the new ships.  I have a feeling that the Wonder will feel colder than the Dream did.

I hope they show appropriate films in the Buena Vista Theatre; Eight Bellow, White Fang, and of course Snow Dogs.

I also hope they serve Baked Alaska.  I figure if they run out of food they will just take some of the state and bake it.  No wonder it is a cruise industry staple, they don’t have to carry it onboard.

All stupid comments aside, I am excited about seeing the natural beauty of Alaska while being surrounded by the man-made beauty of the Disney Wonder.  Listen to the Laughingplace Podcast in late June so I can tell you all about it.

Quick Picks:

Studio Entertainment: Dish Network is being sued by Disney and Starz for giving away access to Starz through January 2012 as part of a promotion.  Disney is stating that their agreement states the channel will be a premium channel and offering it for free devalues their films and windowing strategy.  As a Disney fan, I don’t have to worry about picking sides since I have Bright House Networks.  I can sleep comfortably knowing that they will never give me anything for free.

Media Networks: Hyperion has released Paul Reiser’s new book Familyhood.  I hope the book is more successful than his new NBC sitcom which lasted two episodes.  You know you are in trouble when you get cancelled by NBC considering their low expectations.

Consumer Products:  The snack company, Pirate’s Booty, has developed a special “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” limited edition snack.  A spokesperson for the company said, “We are excited to collaborate with this summer’s most anticipated movie, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean and Pirate’s Booty both epitomize the fun, adventurous and humorous spirit that we all love. Pirate’s Booty is proud to be able to bring this to life by giving consumers a chance to embark on a fun, delicious and healthier adventure with the release of its limited edition 7oz. package.”  So be a good Disney fan and pick up some Booty to enjoy before the movie.

Interactive Media: While Thor may be a cutting-edge special effects filled film, this fun little 16-bit online game is very retro.  It’s like if Mario turned in his plunger for a hammer.
