App Review: Minnie’s Food Truck

In the new Disney app “Minnie’s Food Truck” you become the cook for Minnie and Daisy’s latest venture.Capture

The app opens with access to the beach settings where you can  customize the girls’ pink food truck with either surfboards or dolphins.  Customers gather for various fruit smoothies. Other settings with appropriate menus are available for purchase such as the campground with grill items. Blending the smoothies for your customers is easy, simply click on the items in the provided recipe list, put the lid on the blender, pulse and pour.

But don’t forget to put the lid on the blender or else — Splash!!! a favorite little moment for us.  Another little touch of the app we enjoyed was seeing ourselves in the food truck’s rearview mirror thanks to the iPad camera.
Once you’ve finished the smoothie, ring the bell and the order’s up. If you gathered the items in the recipe you’ll receive a smiley face. Gather enough of the smiley faces and you’ll get your own magazine cover — using the iPad camera.

Its a simple game and although the actions are repetitive the app held my 5 yr old son’s attention longer than I expected and he has since returned for more fun. I suspect he enjoys seeing the fruits blend into a colorful mixture while I like the game as a tool to illustrate sequence and following directions. We even made it a bit more challenging by looking at the ingredients and then covering them, trying to recall the ingredient list without the visual aid.
Minnie’s Food Truck is a free app available now on  Apple’s App Store.
