Pop-Up Baymax Visits Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills played host to some very special guests on Monday, February 2. In the park located on the Northwest corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Beverly Boulevard, a 40-foot-tall inflatable model of Baymax, the caregiving robot from Disney’s Big Hero 6, caught the attention of passersby. The “balloon man” showed up around 8 a.m. that morning and remained in place for pictures, selfies, and general good cheer.

As you can see the, Baymax was the tallest thing in the general vicinity, towering over the park’s fountain and nearby traffic.

The park itself is relatively small, especially when you add a huge Baymax balloon into the mix, but there was still plenty of room for Disney’s crew to set up. There were people with video camera along with others just shooting pictures. A camera man even filmed a jogger taking a selfie in front of Baymax (with permission, of course).

At 10:45 a.m., directors Don Hall and Chris Williams and producer Roy Conli arrived. They posed for pictures in front of Baymax and were very good sports despite the glaring sun. Everyone could not have been friendlier.

After the photos, the trio headed over to record a mini-interview for Disney. They talked about the film’s opening in Japan and the many places the inflatable Baymax had been. They also touched on Baymax being voted “most huggable character of the year.”

The interview didn’t last very long as the group had to head to a luncheon for Academy Award nominees. It was still fun to see them, though.

Big Hero 6 will be available nationwide on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere starting February 3 and on Blu-Ray combo pack starting February 24.
