Disney Infinity 3.0 – Dinosaurs, Superheroes and Sith Lords

Since launching at the end of August, Disney Infinity 3.0 has been delighting fans who have played through the worlds from two different Star Wars trilogies, explored the mind of an 11-year old girl, and expanded the concept of the Toy Box with two separate expansion games. This is all in addition to the seemingly endless creative content players can explore within the game. On November 3rd, the infinite world expands even further with the addition of two new Marvel characters, a fierce Sith lord, and a lovable little boy and his dinosaur friends.

The Good Dinosaur

SpotFrom the upcoming Pixar film The Good Dinosaur comes Spot, a human child who acts more like a dog. Spot is a small figure, one of the smallest ever created in the Disney Infinity series. His long-range attack sends him flaying forward quickly at enemies. In his combination of short-range attacks, he digs underground, slashes at foes and does a slamming finish in a spiral formation.

One of Spots Skill Tree additions is called Wild Thing, which allows him to quickly attack as part of his short-range attacks. Then pressing the long-range attack repeatedly allows him to bounce between enemies. Another skill under the Ranged Attack tree is called Critter Crawl, which causes Spot to duck his head and plow into enemies as part of his long-range attack.

Good Dinosaur

Disney has not created a playset for The Good Dinosaur, nor do they plan to release any of the dinos as figures. Instead, there is a four power disc pack that gives you the characters as vehicles that Spot, or any Infinity character, can ride on. Spot doesn’t talk, but the dinosaurs do. Especially if you put more than one on the base at a time (the maximum is three at a time). The dinosaurs that come in the pack are Arlo, Butch, Nash and Ramsey.

Star Wars

Darth MaulDarth Maul is now part of the game. He’s capable of being used in any of the Star Wars playsets, although he is most fitting in the Twilight of the Republic game. The figure itself looks pretty great with his transparent double-blade light saber. In the game, his long range attack uses the force to move him quickly towards enemies, while his short range features a series of blows from both ends of his light saber. He says things such as “I am surrounded by fools and cowards.” I never watched much of The Clone Wars, but Darth Maul was mostly silent in The Phantom Menace and it’s a little weird to hear him be so verbal.

Twilight of the Old Republic

Darth Maul’s special move from the Skill Tree is called Force Concussion. It allows him to knock nearby opponents back, stunning them so he can continue to attack without a fight from them. Another cool upgrade is Darth Dash Attack, which allows you to add a light saber thrust to his long-range attack.

Marvel

UltronThe first Marvel characters for Disney Infinity 3.0 are finally here. Ultron, the popular villain from the most recent Avengers film, is here to rule Disney Infinity. His long-range attack sends a blast of energy from his hand, while his close combat skills prove he’s tough as iron… or at least Iron Man. Ultron is a flying toy right out of the box, one of the few released so far in 3.0. His phrases include things like “You are imperfect in so many ways it strains my processors.

If you think Ultron is impressive out of the box, wait until you upgrade him. With Command Performance, you can summon Ultron’s army to attack enemies in your immediate vicinity. With Wave of Destruction, Ultron can fire his long range attack from both hands, doubling the damage caused.

Ultron Army

HulkbusterAnother figure based on Avengers: Age of Ultron is Hulkbuster, aka Iron Man in a new suit capable of taking on the Incredible Hulk. To say that this figure is big would be an understatement. He’s so huge that the circular power disc he stands on is barely visible. I was worried he would break the base. In the game, his movements are so loud you can hardly hear Tony Stark say things like “What part of be careful around all this machinery did you not understand?”

Hulkbuster flies full speed ahead at enemies for a long-range attack and delivers a succession of powerful blows in close combat. Somehow this behemoth managers to hover off the ground with his flying skill. In other words, Ultron better be scared. Missile Salvo is his special meter attack, which launches a series of missiles from his back at enemies. This attack can be enhanced with shoulder missiles and you can also add attacks to Hulkbusters dash in the Skill Tree.

Hulkbuster vs Ultron

Coming in the not-so-distant future is an all new Marvel playset that can be played in Infinity 3.0 with any Marvel figure ever made, along with a new Steve Rogers figure (aka Captain America without his cowl). But until then, you can have fun with Ultron and Hulkbuster in the Toy Box.
