DVD Review – LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two

Disney XD’s LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures returned for a second season in 2017, offering thirteen new episodes. Rowan, Kordi, Zander and R0-GR are back for more fun! Following the events of season one, they are now part of the Rebel Alliance. Once again, they will face off against Darth Vader and the Empire to help the rebels win the fight.

The entire series takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and season two actually takes place during the third installment of the original trilogy. The first season featured cameos from some of the OT’s key players, while this one focuses on more obscure drop-ins from characters in the expanded universe, like Hondo, as well as original characters like Graballa the Hut. The final battle of the season, however, takes place on the Death Star during the Battle of Endor (Nub nub).

Now living on Admiral Ackbar’s Home One, the Freemakers spend most of their time facing off against a new foe, M-OC, a new droid that proves himself to be a formidable foe. As Rowan grows more in touch with the force, he has a vision of a new type of ship called the Arrowhead. Throughout this season, he is in pursuit of parts to make the ship as well as kyber crystals to power it, which makes Darth Vader and the Emperor even more curious about their activities.

I reviewed the first season when it came to Blu-Ray in 2016. For season two, Disney has decided not to offer an HD alternative other than purchasing the season from digital outlets. This 2-disc DVD set comes with a bonus pin of LEGO Darth Vader, similar to the first season’s magnets. This season feels like it wraps up all plot lines, but it leaves it open for potential future Freemaker Adventures set between Jedi and The Force Awakens.

  • Bonus Shorts – These five shorts are actually just the first episode of the season, “Home One,” split apart.

Packaging & Design

Season two of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures comes in a standard sized clear DVD case. Inserts include the bonus pin shrink wrapped attached to a card and a code for 100 Points through Disney Movie Rewards. The case is housed in a foil embossed slipcover and a cardboard backing in the pack helps sell the bonus pin, which appears to only be available with the initial pressing.

Final Thoughts

It was fun reconnecting with the Freemakers in the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. It’s a fun series with a surprisingly engaging story perfect for the whole family, in addition to LEGO’s unique brand of humor, including obscure jokes that only adult Star Wars fans will appreciate.
