Create your own animation cel inspired by Princess Tiana.

Over at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, California, Fans of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog have an amazing opportunity to learn about Animation cels.

What’s Happening:

  • This February, in celebration of Black History Month, the Academy Museum located in Los Angeles is offering a special class celebrating both classic animation and Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.
  • Perfect for families, the class will invite attendees to create their own animation cels inspired by the hit 2009 film.
  • Animation cels, also known as celluloids, are a traditional way of animation where animators would paint on clear sheets of plastic. Creating many cels with minor changes, they were assembled to create movement that would eventually become a movie.
  • During the drop-in class, families will be able to learn and participate in this traditional animation practice.
  • Taking place on February 8th and 15th from 12:30-2:30, this free (with admission) class will be held at the Shirley Temple Education Studio on a first-come, first-served basis. Museum admission is free for guests ages 17 and under.
